I created this page, in order to keep my family, friends and other loved ones posted while I’m away. As I currently live in Bucharest, Romania I created the first page called “Bucharest Adventures”. Hopefully in the future, new adventures will be added to this website. But right now, I want to start this story. For those who do not know me, but ended up reading this page anyway:
Hi! My name is Laura, a Dutch student in the field Human Geography. To understand my stories to come, I want to tell you a bit more about me and my background. I study the master specialization Europe: Borders, Identities and Governance at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. Starting Febuary 16th, 2015 I will be working as an intern at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Romania. Here I will also work on my Master Thesis: “National Identity in the Post-Soviet Era: A Comparative Analysis of Romania and Estonia”. In the Netherlands I devote my free time to two causes: scouts and politics. I have been a scout guide for 4 years, and currently am Secretary of the Willem Alexander Groep Arnhem and Secretary of the Regional Board of Regio Klein Gelderland. I am a member of the Dutch political party D66, for which I am Candidate #15 at the Provincial Elections in Gelderland. With theJonge Democraten (affiliated with D66) I am a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Using my time to do the things I love to do, is something that I have only found out recently. Since about a year, this has started bringing out the best in life. Now: the internship at the Embassy is everything I could ever have hoped for. I can’t wait to start.
